The 'Big Red' 6263.. Grail watch material? We think so
Produced from the early 1970's until 1987, the 6263 is teeming with innovation that set it apart from its earlier counterparts.
For instance it was fitted with 2nd generation screw-down chronograph pushers, unlike the pump style pushers found on its the vast majority of its predecessors. As well as boasting an increased depth rating, shown through the introduction of 'Oyster' on the dial.
Another inherently distinguishing feature being the black acrylic tachymeter scale bezel which is often attributed to the iconic nature of the 6263 among avid vintage watch collectors around the globe; with this bezel often speculated as the original inspiration for the modern black Cerachrom bezel that can be found affixed to today's modern Daytona's.
Powered by the manually wound Valjoux. 727 which originally made its debut in the 'transitional' 6262
Daytona, and became the standard movement fitted in all Daytona's until the introduction of the infamous automatic Zenith El Primero movement in 1987.
